Student Dining Plans

Student dining plans are designed to allow Spartans to dine on campus or on the go. With so many locations and options available throughout the day, you’ll never go hungry!

Rates listed are for the 2021-2022 school year. Dining plan rates are subject to change based on room and board rates approved by the MSU Board of Trustees and rates set by the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services. For complete room and board rates, please see the Live On website.


On-campus Plans

Students living on campus choose one of the three dining plans below when signing their housing contract and during the housing selection process. To select or change an on-campus dining plan, please contact the Housing Assignments Office at 517-884-5483 or liveon@msu.edu. Dining plans are non-refundable. After the semester begins, you cannot downgrade your dining plan (e.g., from a Gold to a Silver) due to the Spartan Cash included in two of the plan options. Dining plans can be changed in between semesters in your My Housing account.

2021-2022 Dining Plan Options

DineOn Platinum | $3,434 per semester

  • Unlimited access to residential dining halls
  • 12 Combo-X-Change redemptions per week, Sunday through Saturday
  • $300 Spartan Cash and eight guest meal passes per semester. Unused Spartan Cash remains on your ID card and is non-refundable. Guest passes expire at the end of the semester.

DineOn Gold | $3,284 per semester

  • Unlimited access to residential dining halls
  • 12 Combo-X-Change redemptions per week, Sunday through Saturday
  • $150 Spartan Cash and four guest meal passes per semester. Unused Spartan Cash remains on your ID card and is non-refundable. Guest passes expire at the end of the semester.

DineOn Silver | $3,134 per semester

  • Unlimited access to residential dining halls
  • 12 Combo-X-Change redemptions per week, Sunday through Saturday
  • Spartan Cash is not included, but can be added. Guest meal passes are not included; however, guests can pay the public rate at the door.


Off-campus Plan

Students living in Owen Hall, Williams Hall, Van Hoosen Hall, University Apartments, 1855 Place or at off-campus properties can purchase meal accesses in bundles. Students living off campus are also welcome to purchase an unlimited dining plan, listed under ‘On-campus Plans’ above. Please note mobile ordering is only included as a Combo-X-Change option for students with a Silver, Gold or Platinum plan. If a student living in these locations would like to purchase one of the unlimited plans, they must do so over the phone by calling 517-355-2274.

Do you like to grab lunch between classes? Try the DineOn 50! Are you looking to stay nourished for many months? Then maybe 150 is the right amount for you! With an off-campus plan, you save $2.75 per meal off the standard door rate when visiting our dining halls.

Meal accesses can be used at all-you-care-to-eat locations or as a Combo-X-Change at participating locations. Guests with off-campus plans can use multiple Combo-X-Changes per day (one meal access is deducted for each combo). Meal accesses can also be used to bring guests to eat with you.

Off-campus plans remain active for students as long as you have your ID card and use at least one meal from July 1-June 30. Dining plans not used during this time frame will be deactivated. Please note in summer 2020 and 2021 we did not deactivate any plans given the circumstances of the pandemic.

Off-campus dining plans are non-transferable and non-refundable. If you are a senior who graduated in spring 2021 or you graduate in summer 2021, you are eligible to have remaining accesses refunded (4 or more meals remaining) by contacting our transaction team at 517-355-2274 of info@spartancash.com. Please make sure you have applied for graduation and been accepted prior to contacting our team so we can verify your status. For other dining plan holders, meals remain on their card for future use and they are available to guests dining with the student as well, even post-graduation. Michigan State University reserves the right to change the terms of use for dining plans.
