Bakery Transitions to Nut-conscious Facility

MSU Bakers is now a nut-conscious facility! All items sold are made without peanut or tree nut containing ingredients. In January 2019, Culinary Services (CS) began the Reimagining the Future initiative. As part of the initiative, department teams have been working toward accomplishing short- and long-term goals. The bakery transition to nut-conscious was an area of focus for CS Support Services, which includes MSU Bakers, Food Stores and Spartan Linen Services.

The bakery team deemed this an important goal to achieve in order to keep all guests with nut allergies safe as they dine on campus. “Leading up to the transition, we tested 90 recipes,” shared Cindy Baswell, MSU Bakers manager. “From there, we determined which recipes were viable simply by removing nuts, and which items we would have to remove from our offerings.”

Cindy also expressed that the bakery team is now more allergen aware and they learned unique baking methods, expanding beyond traditional ingredients.

In addition to transitioning to nut-conscious, the bakery has added new products to their website for purchase, including Vegan Vanilla Cupcakes and a Chocolate Lovers Drip Cake. If you’re interested in browsing through treats, visit MSUbakers.com or visit their storefront at 220 Service Road on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
