Free Food Alert LogoWhat is Free Food Alert?

MSU Culinary Services is excited to introduce Free Food Alert, a pilot program that lets students know when extra food is available after approved campus events. This program connects students with food resources and supports Michigan State University’s efforts to reduce food waste and promote sustainability.

How does it work?

Starting in fall 2026, in partnership with Free Food Alert, Culinary Services will launch the program by distributing food at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center.

Start by downloading the "Free Food Alert" app

  • Google Play Store
  • Apple App Store
  1. Sign up with your MSU email so you get alerts just for MSU.
  2. Make sure to allow push notifications for this app on your device.
  3. You are ready to receive alerts.

What to know after you get an alert and before pickup?

  1. Check the alert for details about the food and the pick-up location and time.
  2. Follow all instructions provided in the alert and at the distribution location.
  3. Visit the distribution location during the designated pick-up time.
    • Pick-up windows may be brief, so plan to arrive promptly.
  4. Free food is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Supplies are limited, so please take only what you need to help more Spartans benefit.

What if I have food allergies or dietary requirements?

Some foods may contain common allergens or may have been exposed to allergens through cross-contact. Please review available nutritional and allergen information before making your selection.

If you have questions about ingredients or need assistance identifying foods that meet your dietary requirements, ask a team member before taking food.
